UK Rock, Paper, Scissors Championships 2009
Are you a Bureaucrat or maybe you like playing the Toolbox gambit?
There are many methods for friends or family to decide who cooks dinner, answers the phone or buys the next round of drinks; maybe it’s tossing a coin or perhaps water pistols at six paces. But the ultimate game to settle a dispute is Rock, Paper, Scissors and The Imperial pub in Exeter, Devon will host the inaugural UK Rock, Paper, Scissors Championships on Tuesday 9th June 2009.
The organisers of the event, Wacky Nation, are hoping for around 250 competitors to descend on The Imperial and compete in a ‘best out of three’ knockout tournament. With a first prize of £100 and the title of UK Champion, the pressure is on, but according to Sally Raynes of Wacky Nation, “the game is not just about luck, psyching out the opponent and avoiding elbow cramp, there are many well known gambits that experienced players adopt in tournaments globally. There’s the Scissor Sandwich and the Crescendo. Beginners usually fight with rocks, whilst women prefer throwing the defensive paper. Whatever happens, it will be two hours of wacky fun with many an argument probably settled over the course of the evening!”
Why not come along and compete to earn the bragging rights, but should you win, don’t expect to play rock, paper, scissors to settle the next washing up rota!
To guarantee a place in the competition it is recommended that entrants pre-register a place at www.ukrockpaperscissorschampionships.com. Bookings on the night and paying the £2.50 fee will take place between 5pm – 6.30pm and there is time for a practice session beforehand, as well as special children’s event held from 4.30pm – 5.30pm.

Last year Sally missed out the World Bog Snorkel Cycle title by one second.

With a strongly practical, get-involved-if-you-dare streak, WACKY NATION charts these unusual days out, with ratings for Spectator Fun, Pain Factor, Training Required, Chance of Becoming World Champion and more. There are tips on winning or simply remaining unscathed, based on the intrepid authors’ own experiences.
A sports-book-gone-wrong fortified with a heavy dose of Monty Python, WACKY NATION is both the potential start of some oddly British family fun and an armchair view onto the twisted world of bizarre British life.
